At Home Winter Wonderwheels comes to Jersey!

Thursday 8 October 2020

Move More Jersey have teamed up with the UK Superhero Series again to bring At Home Winter Wonderwheels to Jersey, from 5 November to 6 December!

Following the success of the At Home Superhero Challenge held last summer, this winter disability sport event is calling for superheroes to fly solo or unite as a team to walk, run, push or wheel the 20km challenge.

Everyone who enters the At Home Winter Wonderwheels are also invited to join one of five SUPER teams for a (virtual) race around the world for the greatest mission yet! People are free to set their own goals, from 100m to 1000km or more – the big difference is, all efforts will go towards the SUPER team’s round-the-world target of 40750km, which can be followed on the SUPER Leaderboard and SUPER World Map.

Like all the Superhero Series ‘At Home’ challenges, you can fly solo or unite with friends and family to complete your mission wherever and however you wish! All that is asked is that each solo participant, or at least one team member, considers themselves to have a type of disability.

Sophia Warner, Founder of the Superhero Series said, “We’re absolutely thrilled Move More Jersey are supporting the Superhero Series again this winter and we look forward to even more participants in the island taking part in the At Home Winter Wonderwheels challenge and the Superheroes Around the World Race!”

The island’s first inclusive cycle centre, Cycle Without Limits, is officially opening this weekend and during the At home Winter Wonderwheels challenge, we will be organising specific sessions for islanders who have signed up to take part.  It’s the perfect time for those with disabilities to start clocking up some mileage towards the challenges!

Cirsty de Gruchy, Head of Move More Jersey explained: “Move More Jersey have been working closely with local disability charities to provide the opportunity for more people with disabilities to enjoy the freedom of cycling. We’re delighted to bringing At Home Winter Wonderwheels to Jersey – the last superhero challenge was so much fun and enjoyed by everyone who took part. It will be great to see so many happy faces cycling around the cycle track at Les Quennevais when the Cycle Without Limits centre opens – and we’d love to see some wearing superhero outfits!”

Every entrant to the Superhero challenge receives a Super Pack containing: a medal, t-shirt and finish line tape for their celebratory finish-line moment. Channel 4 will be also be sharing highlights of the At Home Winter Wonderwheels challenge at 08:00 on 12 December 2020. All participants have chance to upload fun footage of their At Home Superhero journey for the chance to feature in the show!
